Encaustic Art

Encaustic art is a modern technique of painting in wax. Wax is melted onto a hot iron and then spread onto card. The wax dries on the card to leave a coat of colored wax. This can be remelted, wiped away or colors added over the top. The nature of the wax allows the creation of fantastic effects.

Wax can be used to produce small cards for family or friends. Natural scenes, such as beaches, canyons and rolling fields can be used as postcards. Simply affix a stamp to the back of your piece of art once you have finished.

The characteristic blending and vein effects are achieved by gliding the iron across or lifting it away from hot wax. The simplicity of these techniques means that it takes very little time to produce dazzling effects.
